PURPOSE:To form on a phosphor screen a spot with small diametrical width in the scanning direction by focussing an electron beam which passed through an aperture with a smaller aspect ratio than that of the beam spot on the phosphor screen, using a ring-shaped permanent magnet. CONSTITUTION:An electron gun EG used for a cathode-ray tube consists of a cathode K, current control electrode G1, beam lead electrode G2, acceleration electrode G3 and beam focussing magnet ring M. An aperture [A] with a smaller aspect ratio (for example, 2:1) than that (for example, 3:1) of the cross section which is irradiated on a phosphor screen is formed at a current limiting electrode G1 and the magnet ring M is fixed to the acceleration electrode G3 by an insulating jig S so that its centering can universally adjusted.
