Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A tricycloundecanol of formulaI.
USE: Useful as a perfume having a strong comphoric fragrance, and expected to have physiological activities, e.g. antiviral, antimicrobial and plant hormonal actions.
PROCESS: Tricyclo[5.2.2.02,6]undeca-3,8-diene of formula II obtained by hydrogenating a reaction product (formula III) of 1,3-cyclohexadiene with cyclopentadiene by the Diels-Alder reaction is subjected to the bridgehead hydroxylation with a peracid, e.g. metachloroperbenzoic acid or peracetic acid, to give the compound of formulaI.
