CONSTITUTION:A cleaning tape 24 is formed at a part of a reader tape 21, an MT2 is wound with a supply reel 1 inversely toward B through the start of an MT device, the cleaning tape 24 stops after passing through an MT head 7 detached toward C, the MT head 7 moves toward D and contacts with the reader tape 21 and the MT2 is carried forward(toward A). In this case, the MT head 7, capstan roller 8, guide rollers 8, 12 are cleaned with the cleaning tape 24 and the head 7 is detached, and the MT2 stops at a specified position after the beginning end of tape is detected. Thus, the MT head 7 is always kept clean.
