Abstract
PURPOSE: The titled naturally setting casting material useful as a heat collecting material, heat insulating material, sound absorbeing material, etc., obtained by blending a mixture of chips and particles of foamable synthetic resin with an inorganic filler, base material of synthetic resin, and a curing agent.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A mixture of chips and particles (3:1) of a foamable synthetic resin is blended with (B) an inorganic filler (e.g., powder of silica sand, etc.) in a volume ratio 4:2, and then 1.6 part by vol. base material of synthetic resin(e.g., epoxy resin, etc.) preferably having a viscosity ≥20 poise and bond strength ≥ 80kg/cm2. When the blend becomes pasty, (D) 20wt% based on base material of a curing agent (e.g., polyamine, etc.) is added to the blend and kneaded, to give a plastic body. The chips and particles are expanded by the reaction heat in curing and a reaction takes place by the heat of their own (about 200°C), so that they are fused with the base material. When the foamed synthetic resin recrystallizes densely and firmly by natural cooling, the crystal particles become hollow to form uncleus of micropores. The molded article has about 30% volume expansion and light- weight foamed molded articles are obtained without using a mold.
