Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the clogging of a pipe with particles and to obtain an excellent aerating effect and an excellent settling and separation effect by a method wherein an aerater is provided at a raw water inlet part of a settling tank as one body with the inlet part, and raw water containing suspended particles is treated.
CONSTITUTION: The aerater 1 composed of a cylindrical body is fixed in the settling tank 2 which is circular in cross section. Raw water is introduced into the aerater 1 through an inlet passage 3 and a rising pipe 4, and is aerated by a pressure-reducing mechanism 21. The raw water flows downward into the settling tank 2 through the interior of the aerater 1, but the settling of the particles does not occur in the passage 3 because the raw water not yet aerated is passed through the passage 3. In addition, there is no place for settling or sedimentation of the particles in the interior of the aerator 1, and the flow velocity of the raw water descending in the interior of the aerator 1 can be made extremely low. The particles settled in the tank 2 are taken out via a discharge pipe 8, while clear water is discharged through a pipe 7 at an upper part of the tank 2.
