Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the forecast characteristic, by operating the sum and the difference between sub-Nyquist sampled color composite video signals on two lines of the same sampling phase and by supplying the sum and the difference to a DPCM encoder having a forecaster. CONSTITUTION:An NTSC color video signal is sampled in an A/D converter 2 by a clock CP0 of the four-fold frequency of a chrominance sub-carrier frequency fSC and is converted to a PCM signal and is supplied to a sub-Nyquist sampling circuit 4. In the circuit 4, PCM data is sampled again by a clock CP1 of a frequency 2fSC and an inversion clock -CP1 and is compressed to 1/2 and is supplied to an adder 9 and a subtractor 10, and the sum and the difference between data on two lines are operated and are supplied to DPCM encoders 13 and 14 having forecasters, respectively. A luminance signal Y and a color signal C of outputs from encoders 13 and 14 are outputted alternately for every one line by a switch 16, and a parity for error detection and correction is added, and these signals Y and C are recorded synchronously with the vertical synchronizing signal alternately by heads HA and HB, thus obtaining optimum forecast for each of the luminance signal Y and the color signal C.
