Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the entire construction withstand sea ice without enlarging it hugely with generation of a bending stress in the sea ice against columns by shaping a conical ice contact surface of the columns which are erected on a lower hull to support the main deck.
CONSTITUTION: The ice contact surface 2a of columns 2 which are erected on a lower hull 1 to support the main deck 3 is made conical as derived from the body of revolution in hyperbola. This generates a bending stress in sea ice against the columns thereby minimizing the area of an off-shore structure subject to external force by the sea ice. Thus, minimal force works on the off-shore structure when it is subjected to the external force by sea ice.
