Abstract

PURPOSE: To stabilize deepness of a latent image and to enhance image quality, by controlling a driver for forming a latent image by output of a comparator.
CONSTITUTION: Surface potential due to uniform charging of photoconductive layer 1 is measured with first potential measuring sensor 14, and area occupied by an image is obtained by adding with adder 18 the dot number of a dot pattern produced with character generating device 15. Drop ratio of the surface potential is computed from this image area. The mean surface potential of layer 1 after formation of a latent image is measured with second potential measuring sensor 21, and the measured mean surface potential is divided by the drop ratio of the surface potential with divider 20. The output of sensor 14 are compared with that of divider 20 by means of comparator 22, and driver 16 for forming the latent image is controlled with the output of this comparator 22, thus permitting deepness of the latent image to be stabilized.
