Abstract

PURPOSE: When diamond is synthesized by heating and pressurizing graphite, a specific catalyst is used to make it possible to synthesize diamond at lower temperatures and pressures.
CONSTITUTION: As a catalyst, is used an alloy containing nickel, chromium, cobalt, iron, titanium, aluminum and sulfur, and additionally silicon, manganese, copper or carbon may be included. The composition of the ingredients can be selected optionally in the alloy, however, the proportions of nickel, chromium, cobalt and iron are high and other components are relatively low. The temperature is lower than about 1,000°C and pressure is lower than about 40,000 atmospheric pressure and diamond is synthesized more advantageously than conventional processes. These conditions are kept for about 10min to give good-quality diamond of 0.1W0.3mm sizes in high yield.
