Abstract

PURPOSE: To selectively remove aldehydes which are harmful to human body and have mal odor by allowing gases contg. aldehydes to contact phenylhydrazine or a compound having phenylhydrazine as skeleton.
CONSTITUTION: Exhaust gases contg. aldehydes are bronght into contact with a layer held with phenylhydrazine or a compound having phenylhydrazine as skeleton such as 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine or the like, whereby aldehydes in the exhaust gases are selectively reacted and removed. For example, 1g refractory brick powder is dipped in a satd. ethanol soln. of 4-diphenylhydrazine. 1g this is put into a glass tube and is fixed by glass wool. If a gas cont. 30ppm formaldehyde is introduced into this tube from its one end, the formaldehyde concn. on the outlet side is made about 2ppm.
