Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable copied images free from head drop-out of images to be obtained by setting a previous running distance according to a variable magnification in a variable magnification copying apparatus of scanning type. CONSTITUTION:At the time of performing variable magnification copying, the 1st mirror 17 and 2nd mirror 18 move their scanning start positions to 17' and 18', and further, the 3rd mirror 20 and 4th mirror 21 are moved to 20' and 21' respectively by changing the position of a lens 19. The previous running distance l2 of the 1st mirror 17' at the time of magnification changing is l2l1/m(m: magnification rate) when the previous running distance at the unmagnification is defined as l1. Namely, the previous running distance at the magnification changing is l2 and this indicates that the previous running distance is taken long by comparing the same with that at the unmagnification and moving the 1st mirror 17 by a distance of (l2-l1). These make it possible to form the same image as the unmagnification at the leading end 0 of the original.
