Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide an inexpensive, highly-effective dephosphorization agent for hot metal by mixing and baking two powder materials; one mainly consisting of CaO and the other mainly of SiO2. CONSTITUTION:To a powder material mainly consisting of CaO, such as quick lime powder, a powder material mainly consisting of SiO2 is added and mixed so that CaO/SiO2 molar ratio becomes 1.8-2.3. The mixture is baked at a temperature higher than 1,300 deg.C thereby preparing a dephosphorization agent for hot metal. This agent has composition of 2CaO.SiO2, a very high purity, and excellent dephosphorization capability. The powder material mainly consisting of SiO2 is a SiO2 mineral such as silica or silica sand, among which one with less than 20% of impurity is used under the baking condition described above.
