Abstract
PURPOSE: To stably prepare high-quality acetylene black, by lowering thermal decomposition temperature for acetylene by admixture with a specified exothermically decomposable hydrocarbon and isothermally decomposing the acetylene at a constant temperature ranging from 1,700°C to 2,400°C.
CONSTITUTION: In the preparation of acetylene black by exothermic decomposition, an exothermically decomposable hydrocarbon (e.g., an unsaturated hydrocarbon such as benzene or ethylene) is preheated correspondingly to a naturally radiated heat from a reactor so that an apparent theoretical temperature for said decomposition is 1,700W2,400°C, and supplied (or acetylene may be preheated). The acetylene gas shall be supplied to the reactor at a linear velocity of 10W45m/sec. Althrough the theorecital flame temperature for the thermal decomposition of acetylene is about 2,500°C, it is preferable to decompose acetylene at a temperature of 1,700W 2,400°C in order to obtain a high-quality acetylene black. Efficient decomposition is effected at a low temperature, by adding a hydrocarbon under said conditions.
