Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a lead-containing zinc stock material for prepared zinc used in zinc plating and separate and recover indium, by subjecting roasted zinc oxide ore containing Pb, In, or Cd to the chlorination treatment in the presence of a reducing agent and, moreover, subjecting said treated ore to the reducing volatilization treatment.
CONSTITUTION: Zinc sulfide ore is subjected to the oxidizing roasting to prepare roasted zinc oxide ore and the roasted ore is ground to a particle size of 1mm or less. To this ground ore, 1W5% of a chlorinating agent such as CaCl2, NH4Cl or NaCl, as well as a reducing agent such as coke is added in a ratio of 1:1W2:1 against said chlorinating agent to pelletize said ground ore. The pellets are heated to a temp. of 800°C or more to separate the greater part of In, Cd, and Pb as chloride by volatilizing and, thereafter, In is separated and recovered. Subsequently, heat treated pellets are further subjected to reducing volatilization treatment and, if necessary, passed through a Cd tower to remove residual Cd to prepare Pb-containing zinc containing Pb<0.25% for prepared zinc.
