Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture α-type hemihydrate gypsum without requiring a sepcial reactor or a special heat source by converting gypsum into α-type hemihydrate gypsum by applying the generation of heat due to oxidation reaction in an oxidation tower.
CONSTITUTION: Exhaust gas fed to cooling and dust removing mechanism 1 from duct 11 is removed of dust and cooled with water sprinkled with pump 1a, and the gas is introduced into SO3 absorbing mechanism 2. A lime slurry is fed to mechanism 2 with pump 3a to form gypsum after adding lime 16 with lime slurry feed mechanism 3. This gypsum slurry is then fed to stock liquor tank 4, heated to about 75°C with exhaust gas from reactor 5, and introduced into reactor 5, where pressurized air of about 5.5W6kg/cm2 G is blown to convert the gypsum into hemihydrate gypsum by air oxidation. The resulting hemihydrate slurry is supplied to separator 7 through thickener 6 to separate hemihydrate gypsum.
