Abstract

PURPOSE: To faciltate a digestion of sludge while preventing a pH value in a digestion vessel from lowering caused by a charge of a sludge, by raising the pH value higher than a predetermined level before charging of a sludge into the digestion vessel.
CONSTITUTION: On charging of a sludge 3 into a digestion vessel 1, a time switch 14 generates an output, corresponding to the charging period, to actuate a charging pump 11. At the same time, a relay switch 13 is connected to the side (b) in the drawing, to input a modified target value from a computer 12 to a controller 10. The computer 12 generates a signal representing a sum of a target value from a target value setting device 9 and a preset value. Consequently, during the sludge charging period, the digestion vessel is operated at a pH value higher, by the preset value than the target value during a normal period. Thus, a sludge digestion is facilitated well, without lowering of a pH value by charge of a sludge.
