Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate and concentrate the carbon isotope by a method wherein a solution containing two kinds of carbon containing compounds having different adsorption properties to an ion exchange resin is contacted with the ion exchange resin to generate isotope exchange reaction of carbon.
CONSTITUTION: The solution containing two kinds of carbon containing compounds whose equilibrium constant of the isotope exchange reaction is shifted from 1 and adsorption properties to the ion exchange resin are different respectively is contacted with said ion exchange resin. Thereby, the isotope exchange reaction of carbon is generated between a resin phase and a solution phase and, because the equilibrium constant of said reaction is not one, carbon isotope can be concentrated in one phase. As described above, carbon isotope is separated effectively at a high separation ratio.
