Abstract

PURPOSE:To effectively suppress the retrograding oscillation by employing specific ratio between the length of an output side delay wave circuit and the length of a delay wave circuit at the speed tapered section in a delay wave circuit placed between an electromagnetic wave attenuator and an electromagnetic wave pick-up section. CONSTITUTION:The electron beam 12 in a helix type waveguide will function with a high frequency signal from an electromagnetic wave input section 2 to be amplified and modulated, then the high frequency signal is attenuated by an electromagnetic attenuator 4 and functions with an attenuator side section 6 of an output side delay wave circuit 9 to be taken out from an electromagnetic wave pick-up section 10. A speed taper section 7 is provided in the output side delay wave circuit 9 and it is selected that an inequality is satisfied between the ratio of the length L1 of said delay circuit and the length L2 of the entire output side delay circuit 9 and the ratio of the retrograding oscillation starting current Isto and the operating current Icol. Consequently optimal speed taper section can be formed and the retrograding oscillation can be suppressed effectively.
