Abstract

PURPOSE:To restrain sufficiently the steel material from corrosion which is in contact with a soln. contg. sour gas, by the addition of substituted quarternary pyridinium salt compound having hydrocarbon groups with carbon atoms no less than a specific number to said soln. CONSTITUTION:A substituted quarternary pyridinium salt having a structure shown by a formula and having hydrocarbon groups R1-R6, R1 having >=1 carbon atoms, at least one member among R2-R6 having >=7 preferably 7-14 carbon atoms, is added in small quantity as a corrosion inhibitor to a soln. contg. sour gas. Said quarternary pyridinium salt compound is manufactured by the reaction of substituted pyridine with alkyl, halide, e.g., by the reaction of nonyl pyridine with butyl chloride. When steel material is in contact with a sour gas-contg. soln. to which <=20ppm said corrosion inhibitor is added, >=96% corrosion inhibiting ratio is maintained.
