Abstract
PURPOSE:To restrain sufficiently the steel material from corrosion which is in contact with a sour soln., by the addition of a polyamide compound having as a substituent a hydrocarbon group with carbon atoms no less than a specific number to the sour soln. CONSTITUTION:A polyamide compound of structure shown by a formula, which has a hydrocarbon group having >=8 preferably 9-16 carbon atoms, (n) being >=3 preferably 3-5, is added in small quantity as a corrosion inhibitor to a soln. contg. sour gas. Said polyamide compound is manufactured by the reaction of a fatty acid with polyethylenepolyamine, e.g., by the dehydration reaction of 3mol pelargonic acid with 1mol tetraethylenepentamine. Steel material is kept at >=96% corrosion inhibiting ratio when it is in contact with said soln. contg. sour gas to which is added <=20ppm said corrosion inhibitor. Said polyamide compound is thermally stable, and exhibits sufficient corrosion inhibiting effect at high temp. as well.
