Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a polyester having a high degree of polymn. by improving reaction rate, by a method wherein an aryl ester of an arom. hydroxycarboxylic acid having a small amount of sulfonic groups is subjected to a polycondensation reaction in the presence of a basic metal.
CONSTITUTION: In the production of an arom. hydroxycarboxylic acid-derived polyester by the polycondensation reaction of an aryl ester of an arom. hydroxycarboxylic acid, or the aryl ester of the arom. hydroxycaroxylic acid and an aryl ester of an arom. dicarboxylic acid with an arom. dihydroxy compd., the polycondensation reaction is conducted in the presence of a basic metal and/or a compd. thereof by using an aryl ester of an arom. hydroxycarboxylic acid contg. a small amount of sulfonic groups (obtained, by the esterification reaction of an arom. hydroxycarboxylic acid with an arom. hydroxy compd. in the presence of a sulfonic acid catalyst) in place of the above aryl ester of the arom hydroxycarboxylic acid having no sulfonic group.
