Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a vinyl-modified thermosetting polyurethane composition adaptable for wide application, by polymerizing a vinyl monomer in an aqueous solution of a thermosetting-block isocyanato group-containing water-soluble polyurethane composition.
CONSTITUTION: A composition of water-soluble polyurethane containing thermosetting block isocyanato groups in the molecule is used as both an emulsifier and a protective colloid. If necessary, a usual emulsifier or a protective colloid is used in combination. A vinyl monomer is emulsion-polymerized in an aqueous solution of said polyurethane composition by using a water-soluble peroxide as a catalyst. According to this process, it is possible to produce a vinyl-modified thermosetting polyurethane composition being versatile and adaptable for wide application by varying the type and amount of the vinyl monomer used.
