Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the mechanical strength of weld zone by using a vibrator as a means of giving vibrations to a molten pool and performing welding while applying vibrations.
CONSTITUTION: In TIG welding, the groove part of base metals 1 and a filler metal 3 are melted by the arc heat between a torch 2 and the base metals in an inert gas atmosphere, whereby a molten pool 25 is made. High-frequency vibrations are applied to the molten pool through the base metals from a vibrator 4 (an electrostrictive metal vibrator which generates high-frequency vibrations when a high- frequency voltage is applied to a cable 23). From low frequencies up to high frequencies are suitably used for the frequencies used for the vibration.
