Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent temperature from lowering and improve productivity by isolating the passage for conveying of high-temperature cast slabs to arbitrary intervals by freely oscillatable curtains of heat-resistant and resilient rod- or flat-platelike pieces thereby bending only the cast slab portions of the curtains during conveying. CONSTITUTION:Materials having heat resistance and resilience are used and are suitably twisted together to a rope shape or formed into a rod shape or to pieces of a flat plate shape. Next, these rods or pieces are continuously joined in the width direction of a conveying path 9 to make freely oscillatable ventilation isolating curtains 11. Thence, an arbitrary number of the curtains 11 are suspended from the upper heat-retaining plate 81 of the conveying path 9 at suitable intervals to segment the conveying path 9. As a result, only the portions corresponding to the section of cast slabs 1 bend during conveying of these cast slabs and the other portions isolate the conveying path 9 completely, thereby preventing heat convection.
