PURPOSE:To obtain a miniature picture detector that functions even at a low transfer signal frequency by comparing the output signal of a CCD detector with no storage area to a threshold voltage increasing with time. CONSTITUTION:The output of the CCD detector consisting of photosensing area 4 and read register 5 is generated by scanning on the photosensing area horizontally and has a stepped potential as shown by X1 in accordance with the distances between horizontal scanning positions A-D and read register 5. A picture at each horizontal scanning position is detected as a potential drop while levels of respective steps of the stepped shape in the figure are regarded as reference levels. Receiving the output of register 5 like this and a signal, shown by Y, increasing with time, comparator 6 decides which one is greater and sends the picture information detection output of a character, etc., projected on the photosensing area.
