Abstract

PURPOSE: To cause an EL material to emit light by applying a blow to a front glass and perform lighting by securing a piezoelectric material to the front glass or forming the glass itself with a transparent piezoelectric material and providing the EL material layer on the inside surface thereof.
CONSTITUTION: A movement 2 having a time display part is provided to a watch case 1, and a windshield glass 3 consisting of a transparent piezoelectric material such as PLZT is provided. A reflection film 6 and an EL part 8 coated with phosphor powder such as zinc sulfide dispersed in a dielectric are provided to the under surface of the windshield glass 3, and a hole 7 is provided in the central part thereof. Hence, if the windshield glass 3 is tapped, the piezoelectric element deflects and a high electric field is generated in the EL material 8, then this material emits light by electroluminescence phenomena; therefore, the display of the watch may be easily read in a dark place without using any battery and the like.
