Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an α-olefin polymer with good form in a high yield, by the polymerization of an α-olefin in the presence of a reaction product from an organoaluminum compound, an electron donor and titanium tetrachloride, and an organoaluminum compound.
CONSTITUTION: Titanium tetrachloride is reacted, in the presence of an aromatic compound, with a reaction product oftained by the reaction of 1mol of an organoaluminum compound with 0.15W1mol of an electron donor, and then the resulting reaction product is reacted with 1W7mol of the electron donor, to obtain a solid product. Then an α-olefin is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst obained by combining the solid product with an organoaluminum compound. The polymerization of the α-olefin can be carried out in a hydrocarbon solvent in which said α-olefin is dissolved, in said α-olefin liquefied or in vapor plase, or in a vapour plase formed by the vaporization of the unreacted α-olefin after the liquid plase polymerization in said α-olefin.
