Abstract
PURPOSE: To remove dusts efficiently and decrease thermal stresses and pressure losses by providing a dust collecting vessel in communication with a pipeline on the outer side of the bend of the pipeline, and projecting the same in the flow direction of fluid.
CONSTITUTION: Dust-laden fluid 2 flows into a main piping 1 from its inflow side 1A, is changed of direction 90° by a bend 1B, and flows out from the outflow side 1C. The dust in the fluid traces roughly the same locus as that of the streamline (a) of the fluid in the straight part, but when it enters the bend 1B, the dust will leave the streamline (a) owing to the difference in the force of inertia between the fluid entering the bend 1B and the dust. The degree of this phenomenon varies with the densities and grain sizes of the dusts. Hence, when various sizes of dusts are contained in the fluid, those above a certain grain size enter a vessel 3, but those below the same flow by being carried in the flow of the fluid to the outflow side. The dust 5 in the vessel 3 is discharged by opening a valve 7.
