Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable the boosting charge of a sealed alkaline storage battery, by providing a given gas-detecting auxiliary electrode, whose terminal is independently formed by insulating it from the negative terminal as well as the positive terminal of the battery. CONSTITUTION:A gas-detecting auxiliary electrode 5, which is made of a nickel- powder sintered-body is not added with any catalyst that is suitable for activating the gas, is crooked and is inserted imto the center space (a) of a cylindrically assembled element 1. A terminal 9 of the auxiliary electrode 5, which is independently attached to a case 6 which also serves as a negative terminal, is insulated from the case 6 by means of a gasket 8. Owing to the above constitution, a voltage-detecting thyristor SCR2 which is usually not conductive, becomes conductive when the potential difference between a resistance R1, which is provided between the negative electrode and the auxiliary electrode 5, comes to be a given value. As a result, a control thyristor SCR1, which is connected to a storage battery E in series, comes to be not conductive, thereby the charging current of the battery E being blocked.
