Abstract
PURPOSE:To inhibit the redissolution of a binder, and thereby enhance the mechanical strength as well as the conductivity of a plate, by mixing an active material with a binder which is made of a polyvinyl alcohol having a given saponification degree to obtain a formed body, and subjecting the formed body to a heat treatment. CONSTITUTION:A positive active material is mixed with a binder, which is made of a polyvinyl alcohol whose saponification degree is 98-99%, to form a positive plate. After that, the positive plate undergoes a heat treatment at a temperature of 120-220 deg.C. Through the means mentioned above, the redissolution of the binder is inhibited, and the expansion of the plate is obviated. Consequently, a plate which provides a high conductivity as well as a large mechanical strength can be obtained.
