Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable accurate detection of the rotational direction by furnishing a rotary body with cuts and a plurality of luminous means and photoreceiving means provided with the cuts being interposed in-between.
CONSTITUTION: When a rotary shaft 2 is rotated by a capstan motor 1, a flywheel 3 fitted to the rotary shaft 2 is also rotated. At this time, the cuts 4 provided in the flywheel 3 are situated between the luminous and photoreceiving means and the light is received by the photoreceiving means or not by the presence of the cuts 4. The positions of two sets of the luminous means 5 and 7 and photoreceiving means 6 and 8 which form pairs are slided by half of the angle of the circumference of the cuts 4. Then, the difference in the time of the output of the light received by the photoreceiving means 6 and 8 makes it possible to know whether the rotary shaft 2 rotates clockwise or counterclockwise.
