Abstract

PURPOSE: To selectively hydrogenate the double bonds in titled polymer by use of a small amount of a catalyst, by employing, as the catalyst, a catalyst prepared by allowing a porous power-form or granular carrier to simultanesouly support Pd and at least one metal selected from Groups IaWVa of the periodic table.
CONSTITUTION: A conjugated diene type polymer is dissolved in a solvent and hydrogenated in an autoclave by use of a catalyst prepared by allowing a porous powder-form or granular carrier to simultaneously support Pd and at least one metal selected from the metals of Groups Ia, IIa, IIIa, IVa and Va of the periodic table. This catalyst has high activity and high selectivity, and therefore, a small amount of this catalyst performs the selective hydrogenation of carbon to carbon double bonds of a polymer. The hydrogenated polymer has excellent weather resistance, ozone resistance, heat resistance and cold resistance, and is used in wide application.
