Abstract
PURPOSE: To maintain at a proper level an amount of bacteria adhering onto carriers for a stable operational effect, by injecting nitrogen gas through the bottom of a packed tower of a denitrification apparatus so as to prevent the bacteria from excessively adhering onto the carriers.
CONSTITUTION: Nitrogen gas is injected at a proper linear speed through the bottom of a packed tower of a fluidized bed type denitrification apparatus, while waste water containing nitric and nitrous nitrogen is charged into the packed tower. The nitrogen gas injection fluidizes carriers with adhering denitrificating bacteria and also maintains at a proper level an amount of the bacteria adhereing onto carriers for a long period. Said proper linear speed is changed in accordance with the kind of the carriers, a packing ratio and the volume of the nitrogen, but is preferably in the range of about 2W20m/hr. Besides, in this invention process, an adhesion balance of the bacteria, as a result of the bacteria splitting from and growing fat on the carriers, is easily controlled by the linear speed of nitrogen gas.
