Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a moving element to measure position with a high accuracy, by applying light from a luminous element and measuring by a light-receiving element amount of light to be varied by teeth of teethlike member of a stator and groove in which an optical fibre is inserted. CONSTITUTION:A photodetector 12, provided with luminous elements 10a-10c and light-receiving elements 11a-11c, is attached to the front side of a moving element 1. The luminous elements 10a-10c and the light-receiving elements 11a- 11b are placed opposite to each other in such positions that the teethlike member 5 of the stator 2 is caught between ends of the both sides. In case if a pair of the luminous elements 10a-10c and the light-receiving elements 11a- 11c are located on the side of a groove 4 of the teethlike member 5, lights radiated from the lumin ous elements 10a-10c are made to pass through an optical fibre 13 located in the groove 4 and received by the light-receiving elements 11a-11c. In case when the pair of the luminous elements 10a-10c and the light-receiving elements 11a-11c are located on the side of a tooth 3 of the teethlike member 5, the lights radiated from the luminous elements 10a-10c are shielded by the tooth 3 and not received by the light-receiving elements 11a-11c. By making output of a position-detecting pulse out of the photosignal received by these light-receiving elements and counting the pulses, it is possible to obtain a motor which is able to be manufactured with facility and capable of measuring position of a moving element with high accuracy.
