Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare titled sizing agent of low viscosity, which is highly effective for sizing, by reacting a monohydric alcohol and epihalohydrin with a reaction product from a rosin, a fatty acid and a polyalkylenepolyamine.
CONSTITUTION: A reaction product (a), obtained by reacting a 8W24C fatty acid such as stearic or oleic acid, with a polyalkylenepolyamine, in such a ratio as to contain at least one free aminogroup in the molecule, is reacted with an (α,β-unsaturated polybasic acid-added) rosin, an α,β-unsaturated polybasic acid-added petroleum resin, or their mixture (b), at 140W200°C, for 2W5hr, to obtain a product (A). The product (A) is reacted with 10W50wt% of a monohydric alcohol (B) such as n-propyl alcohol and 0.2W3.0mol, based on the polyalkylenepolyamine, of epichlorohydrin, at 40W80°C, for 2W8hr, and then, if necessary, pH is adjusted by the addition of an acid.
