Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize a high-density recording and reproduction, by giving a laser beam scanning along the gap slit of a magnetic head to a magnetic tape along the magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:The scanning of the laser beam 11 given from the laser beam source 3 is carried out along the magnetic head 2 by the rotary mirror 12 while the tape 1 is made to travel. Then the record signal is put into the head 2, and thus the tape 1 is magnetized to ensure a photomagentic recording. When reproducing, the beam 11 is irradiated in the same way to the tape 1 travelling. As a result, the residual magnetization of the minute region where the beam 11 is irradiated is decreased qucikly. And this variation is detected by the head 2 to read out the recorded information. The recording density can be increased up to the limit which is decided by the spot diameter of the beam 11. Thus a high-density recording and reproduction becomes possible.
