Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to perform excellent welding on thin sheets which have large gaps in their welding parts, by alternately repeating the first stage welding which is to be performed under specified welding conditions and the second stage welding to be performed with a normal arc in consumable electrode type gas sealed arc weldings.
CONSTITUTION: In the consumable electrode type gas sealed arc welding method, the first stage welding is performed by connecting resistance 8 to power source 7 and with a low current compared with normal arc weldings. The first stage welding is performed in such a way that, when welding wire 2 supplied to base metal 9 short-circuits with base metal 9, wire 2 becomes red due to the short-circuit current and it is melted. After this first stage welding procedure is repeated twice, the second stage welding which is to be performed with a stable normal arc is carried out. These first and second stage weldings are alternatively repeated successively. By this welding method, an excellent welding metal having no melt down can be produced, even if there is a large gap in the welding part of thin plate (≤1mm).
