Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the flow rate of intake air substantially proportional to the accelerator opening, by employing an arrangement capable of moving a throttle valve nonlinearly with depression of an accelerator pedal by means of a link mechanism the lever ratio of which is changed with the depth of depression of the accelerator pedal.
CONSTITUTION: A plate 4 turned together with a throttle valve shaft 1 is formed with a guide groove 4a which is extended diametrically to the center of rotation of the plate 4, and a plate 5 fixed to the vehicle body is formed with an arcuate guide groove 5a in the manner that the distance to the center of shaft 1 is increased gradually. A connecting rod 3 is extended loosely through these grooves 4a, 5a, and one end of the connecting rod 3 is connected to an accelerator rod 2 by the aid of a ball joint 6. Here, in order that the depth of depression of the accelerator is proportional to the flow rate of intake air over the entire range, the configuration of the guide groove 5a is selected such that the distance between the shaft 1 and groove 5a is increased rapidly in counterclockwise direction in the range from one end of groove 5a to its central portion whereas said distance is increased gradually in the range from the central portion to the other end portion of the groove 5a.
