Abstract

PURPOSE: To give damping force in accordance with the vibration of a tower structure to an antivibration block used for controlling vibration of a main tower of suspension bridge or a flue and obtain sufficient damping effect, by freely changing the spring constant of a spring which is deformable in the moving direction of the block, being set between the block and a stationary wall.
CONSTITUTION: As resonance wind works on a main tower 1, the tower 1 becomes resonant due to the Karman vibration. An antivibration block 5 is also vibrated through a damping rope 3 and connecting rope 4, and coulomb friction generated between a slant face 6 and the block 5 damps the main tower 1. Since the damping effect is not large when displacement of the block 5 is smaller than that at the top of the tower 1, service fluid such as air or oil is fed in a cylinder 8 from a compressor 11 to close a valve 9, so that fluid in the cylinder 8 is enclosed. This provides the cylinder 8 with a spring effect to increase amplitude of the block 5 and produce large damping effect.
