Abstract

PURPOSE: To avoid using organic substances and maintain hygienic working environment and safety by a method wherein a constructional plate of an inorganic material such as asbestos cement is provided with a pattern by applying the plate with a solution of a water-soluble polymer having carboxyl groups and then insolubilizing the polymer by cross-linking.

CONSTITUTION: The viscous aqueous solution 1 of the waer-soluble polymer is contained in a vessel 3 having small holes at the bottom surface thereof, the solution 1 in this condition is pressurized and extruded into the shape of strings through the holes, and the string-shaped extrudates 1a are projected toward the surface of a substrate 4. Simultaneously with the projection of the extrudates 1a, an aqueous solution of a metal salt is sprayed as a mist from the nozzle 5 toward the surface of the substrate 4. Accordingly, as soon as the extrudates 1a are projected toward the surface of the substrate 4, the water-soluble polymer is insolubilized and projected in that state onto the surface of the substrate 4, to form a projected pattern.
