Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the transmission loss and strength of a glass material manufactured by a molecular stuffing method by using a compound of a vanadium group element or a rare earth element other than Ce and Nd as a dopant compound. CONSTITUTION:A porous glass body is dipped in water, alcohol or acetone contg. one or more kinds of dopant compounds selected from the compounds of the vanadium group elements and the rare earth elements other than Ce and Nd to carry out stuffing. The body is continuously dipped in ethyl ether to deposit the dopant compounds. Unstuffing is then carried out with water, alcohol or acetone, and the body is further dipped in ethyl ether to redeposit the dopant compounds. Thus, an optical transmission glass material with high strength and less transmission loss is obtd. Bubbling is controlled when this material is spun.
