CONSTITUTION: A sulfon polyprenyl compound expressed by formula I or II (R1 is aryl possibly having an alkyl-substituted group; R2 is H or a protecting group of a hydroxyl group; m is 0W8; n is an integer 1W4) is desulfurized in a reductive procedure with an alkali metal-graphite, and the protecting group, if necessary, is eliminated, to give a polyprenyl alcohol expressed by formula III or IV, e.g. geraniol. The starting material of formula I or II is, for example, prepared by the reaction of a compound expressed by formula V with a compound expressed by formula VI (X is halogen).
