Abstract
PURPOSE: To increase the yield of the titled compound remarkably without artificial light irradiation, by culturing photosynthetic bacteria in a medium containing at least one compound selected from magnesium salts, iron salts and manganese salts, under dark conditions.
CONSTITUTION: A novel strain, Rhodopseudomonas sphaeroides AS-10563 strain, is cultured in a medium containing proper carbon source, nitrogen source, vitamins, etc., and added with one or more compounds selected from (a) 1.3W60mM in concentration of magnesium salts such as magnesium sulfate, (b) ≥0.06mM of iron salts such as ferrous sulfate, and (c) ≥0.15mM of manganese salts such as manganese sulfate, under aerobic or anaerobic conditions, without artificial light irradiation. The isolation of coenzyme Q10 can be carried out by conventional process, i.e. collection by centrifuge, saponification, extraction, and purification by column chromatography.
