Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic head unit which is provided with the magnetic material which forms a prescribed-form magnetic path through the gap, a coil, a magnetosensing element, and a magnetic path switching means and can become a recording head by closing the magnetic path for recording and can become a reproducing head by opening the magnetic path for reproducing. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic head unit is constituted by providing magnetic material 3 which forms a prescribed-form magnetic path through prescribed gap 5, coil 4 wound around this magnetic material 3, magnetosensing element 7 arranged in gap 5, and magnetic path switching means 12 which opens and closes selectively the magnetic path. As a result, this unit becomes a recording head for recording by not only closing the magnetic path by magnetic switching means 12 but also supplying the recording input to coil 4 and becomes a reproducing head, which takes out the reproduced output by magnetosensing element 7, by opening the magnetic path by magnetic switching means 12. Thus, recording and reproducing can be performed by the same magnetic head.
