Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce the titled synthetic Japanese lacquer which cures on the film of Japanese lacquer in a short time, by a method wherein an oily synthetic Japanese lacquer component obtained by the condensation of cashew nut shell oil with HCHO is reacted with tetrabutyl titanate, and then a plasticizer and a drying agent are added to the resulting reaction mixt.
CONSTITUTION: Cashew nut shell oil is condensed with HCHO or its functional equivalent under alkaline conditions to obtain an oily synthetic Japanese lacquer component which is then dissolved in a solvent (e.g. a ketone or a Cellosolve). Tetrabutyl titanate is added to the resulting solution to conduct a reaction therebetween. Then a plasticizer (e.g. tricresyl phosphate) and a solution of a drying agent (e.g. manganese caprylate) in mineral spirit are added to the reaction mixt. The resulting mixt. is controlled so as to give a spread linear gradient of 4.60× 10-2W4.65×10-2 by a parallel plate viscometer and a surface tension of 32W 35dynes/cm2.
USE: The product is not influenced by unreacted urushiol present in natural Japanese lacquer and cured at ordinary temperatures in a short time to produce a strong cured film. Gold-or silver-inlaid lacquer is easily made.
