Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a base for poultice, having excellent water-retainability and flexibility, high drug-utilization efficiency, and good applicability, by compounding a specific polymer to gelatin, a polyhydric alcohol and water.
CONSTITUTION: A base for poultice is prepared by compounding (A) gelatin, (B) a polymer selected from polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, sodium polyacrylate and carboxyvinyl polymers, (C) a polyhydric aoccohol, and (D) water. The amount of (C) and (D) components are 20W60wt%, and 40W70wt%, based on the whole composition. The base thus obtained can retain a large amount of liquid, keeps the moistness for a long period, has excellent flexibility, and is applicable for a long period. It has high spreadability, and can be spread thinly, and consequently, the drug utilization efficiency can be improved. Furthermore, the base has high adhesivity to the skin, and nevertheless, can be released easily.
