Abstract
PURPOSE: A large-sized quartz glass container having a high dimensional accuracy of the wall thickness at the bottom, smooth internal and outer surfaces and a high thermal and mechanical strength with very slight strain, and obtained by welding a hollow cylindical body to a previously heat-treated bottom member, and molding the welded material.
CONSTITUTION: A quartz glass plate is heated and molded in a carbon mold. The end is then worked according to the diameter of a hollow cylindrical body 1 of quartz glass to form a bottom member 2. The cylindrical body 1 is placed on the bottom member 2, set in a furnace, heated to 1,100W1,200°C while being rotated and welded to prepare a large-sized quartz glass container. A larger-caliber quartz glass container is prepared by the following method: A small-diameter pipe is ripped lengthwise and opened while being heat-treated. Two or three pieces of the opened pipes are previously prepared and joined to form one large-diameter hollow cylindrical body 1a. The resultant cylindrical body 1a is welded to the bottom member 2a in the same manner as described above.
