Abstract

PURPOSE: To make full use of the strength of mill housings and improve rolling efficiency by providing a pair of upper, lower work rolls which are revolving at different peripheral speeds or at the same peripheral speed, and connecting drive shafts respectively to one end of the one roll and both ends to the other roll.
CONSTITUTION: A pair of upper, lower work rolls which are revolving at different peripheral speeds or the same peripheral speeds are provided, and a driving shaft is connected to one end of the one work roll, and driving shafts are connected respectively to both sides of the other work roll, whereby the triple shaft drive rolling mill is constituted. In this way, the heavy screw-down up to 1.5 times the torque of ordinary rolling mills is made possible and even in the passes of the first half in the plate rolling, the full use of the mill housing up to the full threshold of its permissible rolling load is made possible. As a result, the rolling pass times may be advantageously reduced and the efficiency of production may be considerably improved.
