Abstract

PURPOSE: Candida tropicalis PK233 is aerobically cultured in an inositol-deficit and ethanol-containing medium to grow a mycelium type yeast and produce fermentatively a high-molecular substance.
CONSTITUTION: About 1.5W3.0% of ethanol is added to an inositol-deficit culture medium and Candida tropicalis PK233 is aerobially cultured in which abnormality causes on the cell walls to make the whole cells into a mycelium type and lose the capability of holding intracellular components by the cell walls, whereby especially high-molecular substances are eluted into the medium. Therefore, a large amount of high-molecular substances is eluted and accumulated in the medium and the operation for the extraction of these substances from the yeast cells can be eliminated. Further, in order to compensate the deficit of these high-molecular substance inside the yeast cells, the synthesis of the high-molecular substances are accelerated to permit the continuous production by the supply of a carbon source.
