Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the edges of a skelp from being flawed and form the same into a pipe shape which is free from any matching defect of weld butt lines by making the molding amount and width of edge bending larger.
CONSTITUTION: A flat skelp 1 is bent to a shallow V-shape by horizontal rolls 54 in a preforming stand 31. The skelp 5 having been preformed is subjected to edge bending respectively in the narrow ranges divided in its width direction by three edge-forming stands 32, 33 and 34. The skelp 6C having been edge-formed is subjected to intermediate forming by cage roll stands 35W41. Cage rolls are narrower in a roll gap at a latter part. As a result, the portions on the inner side having been edge-bent are continuously formed and the skelp becomes gradually approximate to an O shape. The skelp 8 having been subjected to the intermediate forming is finish-formed by finned rolls in finish-forming stands 42W44. Thence, welding equipment is disposed.
